Due to the heavy increase of two wheeled motorized vehicles on campus, including scooters and mopeds, Parking & Transportation Services will be strictly enforcing the scooter/moped policy beginning this term. All operators of scooter/mopeds will need to go to the Parking & Transportation Services Office in the Union Garage to receive a free permit. This permit will be valid in assigned motorcycle spaces only. These motorcycle spaces can be found in all of the garages (Union, Towsontown, Glen & West Village) and in Towson Center lots 19 and 21. Scooters/mopeds cannot be parked at bike racks, in or outside of buildings, or on sidewalks. Vehicles found in violation of these rules are subject to impoundment beginning October 2012. If impounded, there will be a required release fee.
Parking Services, in conjunction with TUPD, is working on ensuring the safety of pedestrians and the campus community. Maryland State Vehicle Law 21-1103 prohibits motorists from driving two-wheeled motorized vehicles on sidewalks. Effective October 1, 2012, Maryland has implemented new laws that require scooters to be titled and insured. The operator and passengers of the vehicle must wear a helmet and eye protection. Please view the Maryland MVA site for more information about two-wheeled motorized vehicles.
