Eric Martinez is the new Editor-in-Chief of Dollars & Common Sense. In his role as the Divisional Communications Specialist for the Division of Administration and Finance, he will develop and implement marketing and communications plans for divisional initiatives, and draft speeches, presentations, and byline columns. When Eric is not writing or communicating, you can find him reading, listening to music, or attending concerts.
Mark Addy, OTSDirector of Enterprise Services, is a TU Computer Science graduate with 15 years of experience working on campus. In his role, Mark oversees the central computing and network infrastructure that the campus relies on every day, and he shares information about projects and people related to the infrastructure on Dollars and Common Sense. Outside of the office, Mark spends most of his time running his two boys to sporting events and doing youth sports photography while on the sidelines.
Donna Auvil keeps departmental budgets on track in her role as University Budget Coordinator. As a longtime TU employee—she even worked in A&F as an undergrad—Donna shares in her blog posts the insights gained over many years on campus. When Donna isn’t keeping her eye on TU’s finances, she’s watching her two kids, Nick (15) and Hannah (12) play a range of sports including football, rugby, softball and soccer.
Dennis Bohlayer has more than 35 years of experience in engineering, construction, and facilities management. Following a career in the U.S. Coast Guard, Dennis joined Towson University’s Facilities Management Department in 1997 as the Director of Operations and Maintenance. In the subsequent years, Dennis served in a number of positions in Facilities before becoming the current Director of Energy Engineering and Conservation. An active member of the Towson University Staff Council (TUSC) for many years, Dennis enjoys problem solving, understanding and implementing new technologies, and the pursuit of excellence through continuous improvement. He will be a grandfather for the first time in January 2012.
Joanne Bracken has a long history with TU. She’s an alumna and was a student employee in University Advancement while earning her English degree in the 1980s. She also worked in Alumni Relations and the Career Center before taking on her current position as Executive Administrative Assistant in the Office of Technology Services. Joanne is known for her warm, bubbly personality and ability to juggle multiple tasks (including writing Dollars and Sense blog posts) at once!
Susanna Craine is a longtime Towson University employee. In her current role in the Office of Public Safety, Susanna helps to promote the department’s projects and programs through communication. An avid animal lover, Susanna owns two cats (Bill and Ivy) and spends her free time volunteering at the ASPCA.
Stacy Elofir is the Director of the University Store. She uses a great merchandising eye and solid business sense to keep the Store looking fresh and running smoothly. As a Dollars & Sense contributor, Stacy brings us news from Auxiliary Services, including the latest University Store deals. As a mom of three, she knows firsthand how important savings are!
Scott Guckert, Director of Construction Services, has overseen more than $400 million in capital construction during his 25 years at Towson University. He is also adept at American Disabilities Act (ADA) policies after serving as TU’s ADA compliance officer for more than 22 years. Scott utilizes his experience in construction management and his knowledge of Towson University’s campus to share information about projects and building progress in the blog.
Robbi Hairston-Flood has worked in the HR field for more than 15 years. In her current role in TU’s Office of Human Resources she provides service to all A&F departments with regard to Employment, Classification, and Compensation. When Robbi isn’t pushing paper, she’s classified as a full-time mother of two!
Carla Hall has served as a Human Resources Associate in the Office of Human Resources for the past 15 years. Carla is specifically involved in the processing of new staff, salary adjustments, promotions, etc. and brings the HR point of view to articles she contributes to the blog. Carla is also very active in church activities and volunteers at the Women’s Detention Center in Baltimore City.
Barbara Hufnagel has a long history with Towson University. In her current position as Contract Administrator/Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) & Small Business Reserve (SBR) Liaison, she handles specialized contract administration work of a complex nature, including the preparation, management, award, administration and closeout of construction, architecture/engineering and selected equipment, supply and service contracts for the university. Barbara also manages the university’s MBE and SBR programs and is a member of the Maryland Department of Transportation’s MBE Board. Prior to joining Procurement in 2000, Barbara worked in TU’s Facilities Management department for more than 14 years. When not working, you can find Barbara spending time with her three granddaughters, whitewater rafting, tubing, attending sporting events and traveling.
Jaslynn Hutley is a new employee at Towson University. As a recent grad and a current MBA student, she serves as Parking & Transportation Services’ program and communications assistant. In her current role, she serves as the department’s marketing personnel and represents the department at various campus functions. She also acts as the campus liaison for departmental visitor codes. Outside of TU, Jaslynn enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Lyn Kimmel is the Director of OTS Information Systems. She leads a team of 21 diverse, highly skilled management, technical and analytical team members who support PeopleSoft Applications Security, the TU Portal, Campus Solutions, Human Resources, PACS, Payroll, Financials and third party systems to keep the university administrative systems applications processing effectively. As a Dollars and Sense contributor, Lyn shares news about her team’s cutting edge systems development and support activities, and highlights special volunteer activities supported by her team members.
Sherry McKendry is the Executive Administrative Assistant for the Office of Human Resources. She’s been on campus for more than 20 years as both an employee and a student, earning her Mass Communications degree on campus. Her current role allows her interaction with all of the OHR units—a plus for someone who enjoys working with the public. She enjoys spending time off with her grandchildren or watching British murder mysteries.
As Assistant Director of the Bursar’s Office, Kevin McKenna is integrally involved in the university’s billing and payment collection functions. A relative newcomer to the campus, Kevin uses his background in banking and finance to keep the Bursar’s Office moving forward. He is a huge sports fan who loves to play golf and coach his kids’ softball, baseball, and soccer teams.
Tyler New is the Communications Assistant in A&F and is double-majoring in English and Elementary Education. In his current role, Tyler works with the Go Green Initiative, edits and writes various pieces and assists in planning the annual report. After graduation, he plans to either teach second grade or edit. When Tyler is not writing papers or working, you can catch him reading, playing Ultimate Frisbee, or running.
Lucy Slaich just celebrated the 30th anniversary of her career in public sector procurement. A TU alum in need of a hobby to fill the free hours left after graduating from the UB School of Law, Lucy became the family historian. Her research turned up a historical precedent for her career in government contracts: one of her ancestors was quartermaster of his Virginia militia unit in the American Revolution, serving in the west under George Rogers Clark. His letter to Governor Patrick Henry, listing the unit’s supplies on hand at the war’s end, is in the Library of Virginia.
Eric VanLieshout is a new Communications Assistant in the Administration and Finance Division, where he will be assisting the Divisional Communications Specialist, Eric Martinez, in writing and editing divisional communications as well as writing, editing and posting articles for the Dollars & Common Sense Blog and the Daily Digest. He is currently pursing degrees in English and Journalism at Towson University.
